Music

Music has always been a major component of the Russell oeuvre, starting with early DNA "experimental" sounds, which either augmented the spoken word, or ultimately became tapes on their own... His techniques include strumming the strings with a metal bar (reverse slide guitar) and extensive tape looping. After jamming with individual musicians for many years, Lawrence organized his first band in the late 1980s, the short-lived Dram/Boogie Band, which allowed him the opportunity to start writing original songs... the next band, LS Crude (the reference is to a type of oil: light, sweet crude) specialized in R&B and R&R covers, and played most of Lawrence's best original pieces, of which Love In Pain is the most sophisticated...."give me all your money/think of it as rent"

Since 2001, LR has rekindled his interest in music as a solo performer, building a digital recording studio and recording with a vengeance.
